Hello, World!

Oversized Bamboo Obi Bag

The Oversized Bamboo Obi Bag is constructed from two separate Fukuro Obi. Traditionally, the Fukuro Obi is a formal, decorative sash worn with the Kimono. The outer layers of the Fukuro Obi feature kiku 菊 (chrysanthemums), a motif long associated with Japanese artistry symbolising rejuvination, woven between gold and silver threads.

The bamboo handle of this bag was one of the few surviving pieces from Helena Honar’s atelier after the fire. It was dug out from what remained of the atelier, then restored and cleaned, leaving the patina on the bronze from the fire.
